Orpheus Reflections

Orpheus Reflections™ brings the healing power of music to people living with Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia and their caregivers.

Music imprints itself on the brain deeper than any other human experience... it brings back the feeling of life when nothing else can.Neurologist Oliver Sacks

Research demonstrates that music can provide many positive benefits to people living with dementia. It can shift mood, stimulate the brain, and evoke memories. Orpheus Reflections™ was designed to give individuals living with dementia and their caregivers the opportunity to participate in intimate performances and socialize with Orpheus musicians in comfortable, accessible settings.

Music can bring emotional and physical closeness, help to ease stress, and encourage positive interactions. Our programs also benefit caregivers, who  in their demanding roles  may have little opportunity  to enjoy live music.

Reviews

“Having Orpheus Reflections come to our program was a once-in-a-lifetime experience. To quote a few family members, ‘For the musicians to come to us brought us something that we thought we would never experience again.’ ‘It inspired us and gave us hope.’ The performance was amazing, beautiful, and breathtaking. It was so much fun to socialize with the musicians afterwards.” Gwynne Chovanec, Director, Older Adult Services & Senior Advocate, Advocate Lutheran General Hospital “It was an incredibly moving afternoon of listening to beautiful music performed by caring and talented musicians. Thank you so much to Orpheus Chamber Orchestra for bringing the joy of music to those living with Alzheimer’s disease and their caregivers.” Pamela S. Jaffe, LCSW, Director, Social Adult Day Care, Friedberg JCC
