Orpheus' Complete Recordings on Deutsche Grammophon

55 CD Box Set | Released 2021

Anticipating the 50th anniversary of Orpheus Chamber Orchestra in 2022, Deutsche Grammophon presents a 55-CD boxed set of our complete recordings for the label.

Orpheus' discography on Deutsche Grammophon is a gem worthy of rediscovery, and includes stunning recordings with Martha Argerich, Gidon Kremer, Mischa Maisky, Jan Lisiecki, and Gil Shaham; as well as an unpublished recording of Mendelssohn’s Italian Symphony from 2018.

"The recordings in this collection represent the first fruits of the historic collaboration that is Orpheus. Born of our time, we embody the democratizing wave that is still cresting in classical music. These recordings helped to demolish the Maestro myth, that leadership must be assigned to one firm hand, and brought a spirit of participation and equality to the fore. These recording document the success of that vision."

—Dov Scheindlin, Orpheus Artistic Director & violist

Reviews

It’s hard to believe Orpheus Chamber Orchestra is turning 50 next year. There’s something eternally youthful about its limber sound, and something that still smacks of the teenage renegade about the famously “conductor-less” ensemble. Clive Paget, Musical America One of the best sets of classical discs to be stuffed into a box in many, many, many a moon. David Hurwitz, Classics Today
